DF - Forrest Champion

"Hello and sit down, I might have a story to tell...

Today a lone bard set out to find the truth on the rumors about "giant black widows". Reportedly those were extinct, only driven by dark forces from their holes in times past, yet the bard seemed to recall some of those in a cave in Ilshenar.

To cut an uneventful prelude short - yes.. they live there. *drinks some ale* Aaaanyway....

On the way back from the spiders caves to the Shrine of Spirituality - and through a mad group of dancing pixies, agressive serpentine dragons and bowtotin` centaurs something unusual struck out. A giant Ethereal Warrior going by the name of "Lord Oaks" peacefully hovered nearby. Obviously that was one of the dreaded champions!

Of course - such a great evil (hmm.. he`s good, ain`t he?) had to go down, for the curiosity, fame, information of the masses - and.. well... the "l33t" title also was interesting. Attacking the Lord directly seemed unwise - mainly due to lack of skill, weapon, healing, strength and deathwish. Provoking a serpentine dragon did not seem to work - the stupid (meaning: noble) beast refused to attack. A few well placed bladespirits later one thing was clear - he would not die without killing his "Queen" first.

Although usually opposed to crushing cute little pixies (with remarkably big wings for their size, one might add), this time it was all about information - so with a heavy heart the bard provoked some dragon to attack the Queen (her name was Tatanya) - and watched the dragon succumb to her melee in mere seconds. Luckily Pietrov - a winged warrior of great skill was close, to end the Queens zipping hysterically about the countryside.

Back to Lord Oaks. The Lord himself was massive enough to inspire fear in everything around him - neither dragon nor wisp could be persuaded to attack. Falling back on the original plan of using summoned help proved interesting - if not cost effective. Due to the immense melee strength of the Lord even energy vortexes simply perished...

As visible on the same picture a different plan was set in motion. Considering the ethereal warriors known strength of sapping life, mana and stamina away from their melee targets - restoring their own strength in the progress - avoiding melee at all costs seemed like a good idea. No more summoned help, no provocation attempts, and no foolish wrestling should do the trick.

As barely visible above (the tiny light-blue bar) Lord Oaks did indeed suffer from the energies unleashed onto him (I should add: Occasionally, after much meditating and zigging and zagging). In the end, no mere ethereal lord was a match for one determined bard! *steps back of table - coughs*

What I meant to say: In the end not even the strong Lord Oaks was a match for even a single bardic mage. An Archer or Mage would have fared even better, once the queen was down. It seemed that melee would be a futile effort, considering the speed an energy vortex was sapped to death.

Riding home a lot richer and equipped with a brand new warfork of dragonslaying our [heroic],[mighty],[powerful]... serendipidous bard noticed a minor problem at last - having killed not more than a few of the surrounding beast the title of "Slaughterer of the Forest Lord", now within grasp, was still far away.

Not even "Enemy" was written down in consideration of the battle... maybe this bard will be near the Shrine of Spirituality more often now...."
